JUST THE JOB! PRAISE FOR SFHA AS CGC BACKS APPRENTICE EVENT

April 9 2018

CITY Gate Construction is to support the drive to create more apprenticeships within Scotland’s housing association movement.

CGC will be one of the sponsors at this Thursday’s “Housing Scotland Apprentice Event” from the SFHA in Glasgow.
The free, one-day conference will highlight the importance of apprenticeships to the future of the housing sector and the benefits they can bring.

CGC, based in Paisley, already has a deep-rooted apprenticeship programme with a specific emphasis on helping young people from disadvantaged backgrounds onto the career ladder.
It shares the SFHA’s vision of helping young women and men find rewarding careers in housing and has been doing a similar job in the construction for many years.

The event will be held at City of Glasgow College’s Riverside campus and over 80 people from many housing providers are due to attend. CGC are commercial members of the SFHA and the conference will feature expert speakers who will detail every stage of recruiting and managing apprentices and answer any questions which potential employers have.

Other highlights include: the funding and recruitment process for apprentices, why you should take on an apprentice and what it is like to be a Modern Apprentice.

Leo Reilly, Managing Director of CGC, said: “This apprentice event is the ideal occasion in which to support the SFHA through our sponsorship. We recognise and applaud the efforts being made by the SFHA to increase apprenticeships in housing.

“It is entirely appropriate that a movement set up to deliver good housing and help communities should be leading the way in proving young people with a flying start to their careers AND create the highly-qualified housing professionals of the future.

“CGC has always believed in the importance of apprenticeships and as we have a strong focus on social justice and helping communities where we do work, we are delighted to be involved. The Housing Scotland Apprentice Event is a vital opportunity to shine the spotlight on housing apprenticeships.”

The day long-event will conclude with the innovative “Apprenticeship Challenge”. Apprentices from all over Scotland will showcase a presentation they have been working on in groups of five throughout the day.

Apprentices have been given a housing-related issue that they must find solutions to present to the audience. Delegates will then vote which group they deem to be the winner providing a fitting conclusion to the event.
